Each year, nearly 300,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a type of gastrointestinal cancer. Many of these cancers are too complex or difficult to be treated with just one type of treatment. At Karim A. Paracha MD, patients with gastrointestinal cancers undergo a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of these complex diseases. We work in tandem with other local specialists like oncologists, gastroenterologists, thoracic surgeons, and gynecologic oncologists, to approach complex cancers of the esophagus, lung, stomach, liver, pancreas, colon, rectum, and anus, as well as advanced gynecological tumors that require debulking surgery. We coordinate with diagnostic and interventional radiologists, gastroenterologists, and pathologists to provide the most up-to-date and effective treatments available. Cases are discussed in local multidisciplinary tumor boards to come to a consensus of the most appropriate medical and/or surgical approach, whether it is neoadjuvant chemotherapy (chemotherapy before surgery) to decrease tumor size and make a curative surgery more likely or postoperative chemoradiation for advanced tumors which have spread to lymph nodes or other organs.
If you have been diagnosed with a complex tumor please call and make a consultation.
